Week # 2 Jun 12 Written By Winslow Farm Gratitude is bountiful here as the veggies bow to the deluge of rain that has finally landed! This week the share includes: golden beets, salad turnips, carrots, kohlrabi, head lettuce, broccoli, Pac Choi, and shiitake mushrooms. The brown bags in your farm share have shiitake mushrooms! These are amazing log-grown mushrooms that we inoculate every Spring and soak in order to initiate fruiting. This week we were gifted with an abundance. Best stored in paper bags in the fridge, best used promptly as they can dry out (but don’t throw them away if they do, because they are fantastic in soup stock), and cooked any which way! Extra 1/2 pound bags for sale in the farm stand. Shiitake mushrooms fruiting on oak logs. We know we’ve been loading y’all up with tons of salad turnips and while many of you likely enjoy they raw in salads or out of hand, you also may be wondering how to cook them. Here are some delicious options. Turnip soup, featured by David Levi at Vinland, check out the recipe. Miso-Glazed Turnips touted on Bon Appétit. Lastly, we want to share with all of you that we will be offering a limited amount of flower bouquets this season. Prepared Saturday mornings, the bouquets will be available for sale in the farm stand. Check out our online store for extra veggies to add on to your share or ask whomever is working the farm stand about available produce if you’re interested in bulking up your share! Winslow Farm
