Garlic scapes are well loved around our farm. Garlic, for that matter, is well loved. So, when we can’t get the bulb, the scape is pretty special. The fresh crunchy green flavor of the garlic scapes make for a delicious addition to pretty much any savory meal. We especially enjoy making pesto with this more subtle flavor.

As far as farming goes, vegetables are incredibly seasonal. Which means that throughout the growing season there is a lot of certain items. Not entirely different then the short spell of strawberry season we see in Maine, there are some strong keep-coming veggies all season and some come-and-go things. So, while you grow more excited about the coming hot season veggies like zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc., learn how to get more creative with the keep-coming stuff. Our family has grown to adore the things that have become staples to our diet - like kale, scallions (onions), and root vegetables. For example, have you ever thought to try kale pesto? Or scallion pancakes?
